A Spoonful of Honey: My Daily Ritual for Immunity, Energy, and Stress Support
Many people I know are getting sick right now. Sure, it’s November—the time of year when colds and flus make their rounds. But what I’m noticing is that people aren’t just getting sick once. Illness is lingering, or returning again and again. In our hustle-and-grind culture, stress is one of the biggest contributors to lowered immunity. When stress becomes chronic and unmanaged, it wears the body down over time, making us more vulnerable to whatever is circulating.
One small daily ritual I rely on during cold and flu season is a simple spoonful of honey.
Mary Poppins once sang that a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down.
In this case, the spoonful is the medicine—and it happens to be sweet and delicious all on its own.
I love honeybees. They do so much for us. Every morning, I take a teaspoon of Vitality Honey—a pure, unpasteurized honey enriched with royal jelly, bee pollen, and propolis—for immune support. Because it’s unpasteurized, the honey hasn’t been heated, so it retains precious bee-derived compounds like pollen, enzymes, and traces of propolis.
There’s a lot of talk about prebiotics these days.
Did you know that unpasteurized honey itself is a prebiotic? It helps feed healthy gut bacteria and supports a thriving microbiome, which is foundational for immunity.
If you’re dealing with a sore throat, a spoonful of this honey can be just as effective as many over-the-counter cough syrups—without the unpleasant taste or questionable ingredients.
For allergy sufferers, adding local bee pollen to your diet may help your body become less reactive to environmental allergens over time. Think of it as gentle exposure therapy from nature.
Many people reach for a daily multivitamin, but a single spoonful of this honey naturally provides B vitamins, amino acids, antioxidants, trace minerals, and enzymes—all in a whole-food, easy-to-digest form. No large horse pills, no isolated synthetic vitamins—just a nutrient-rich, unprocessed gift from the hive.
Athletes also love this blend. Its natural carbohydrates, protein, and B vitamins help support steady energy and enhance performance. Bee pollen contains compounds that reduce inflammation, supporting joint comfort and faster recovery.
Propolis adds another layer of protection. The same resins bees use to seal and protect their hive help strengthen our own defenses, which is especially important during seasonal transitions like Fall into Winter. Propolis supports resilience against everyday stressors—from pollutants to pathogens.
And then there is royal jelly—one of the most nutrient-dense substances found in the hive. Rich in antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory compounds, it helps strengthen the body’s natural defenses and supports recovery. Its bioactive compounds help calm inflammation and nourish overall well-being, from digestion to joint health.
Earlier, I mentioned stress. If you’re chronically stressed, you may notice that you’re getting sick more often. Raw honey contains tryptophan, a precursor to serotonin and melatonin. Serotonin supports mood, and melatonin supports sleep—both essential for stress recovery. A small spoonful before bed can promote deeper, more restorative sleep.
Chronic stress also increases oxidative stress in the body. Raw honey is full of polyphenols and antioxidants that help buffer the effects of stress, support cellular health, and reduce inflammation. Its natural minerals and gentle carbohydrates also support the body during adrenal fatigue or burnout, offering quick but steady energy without the crash that comes from refined sugar or caffeine.
One spoonful, so much goodness.
This is why I take it daily—and why I wanted to share it with you during a season when our bodies need all the support they can get.
