Crown Chakra

Located at the top centre of the head, the crown chakra is considered the seventh and highest of the primary chakras within many energy traditions. Known as Sahasrara in Sanskrit, it is associated with consciousness, spiritual connection, wisdom, and our relationship with something greater than ourselves.

The crown chakra represents the meeting point between our physical experience and our higher consciousness. It is often described as the gateway to the spirit world, supporting our ability to connect with our higher self, universal wisdom, and a sense of oneness with all living things.

Unlike the lower chakras, which are often associated with grounding, survival, creativity, and personal identity, the crown chakra invites us to move beyond the individual self and explore our connection to the collective experience of humanity.

When we are deeply connected to this energy, we may feel a greater sense of purpose, openness, trust, and awareness of the interconnectedness of life. The crown chakra encourages us to look beyond the physical world and explore the deeper meaning behind our experiences.

The crown chakra can be influenced by our relationship with the material world. While physical needs, responsibilities, and creating stability are important parts of human life, many spiritual traditions teach that attachment to external things can sometimes distract us from our inner wisdom and connection.

The crown chakra invites us to explore the balance between appreciating the physical world while remembering that our identity extends beyond what we own, achieve, or accumulate.

Practices that support crown chakra awareness often include meditation, mindfulness, time in nature, prayer, contemplation, gratitude, and moments of stillness where we create space for deeper reflection.

The Crown Chakra and the Physical Body

Within chakra traditions, the crown chakra is often associated with the upper body, including:

  • The brain and nervous system

  • The skin

  • The muscular and skeletal systems

Energetically, it is connected with awareness, intuition, spirituality, and our ability to see the bigger picture.

When this energy centre feels balanced, many people describe experiencing:

  • A sense of connection

  • Greater awareness

  • Spiritual curiosity

  • Openness to new perspectives

  • A deeper relationship with oneself and the world around us

When this energy feels disconnected or stagnant, some traditions associate it with feelings of isolation, lack of purpose, difficulty trusting life, or feeling disconnected from one’s spiritual path.

Supporting the Crown Chakra

  • Meditation and quiet reflection

  • Spending time in nature

  • Practicing gratitude

  • Connecting with spiritual practices that resonate with you

  • Journaling

  • Breathwork

  • Energy work such as Reiki

  • Creating moments of stillness away from constant stimulation

The crown chakra reminds us that wellness is not only about caring for the physical body. It is also about nurturing our connection to ourselves, each other, and the greater world around us.

When we create space for stillness and awareness, we allow ourselves to listen more deeply to the wisdom that already exists within.
